New cousins on the Grimes, Gray, Evans Family Facebook Group

I see that Brian has signed up cousin Lisa Barclay Benjamin, from the Thomas Evans branch of the family and she seems to have brought a whole gang of cousins along with her.  I hope you will all use and contribute to this blog. I haven't been posting with too much regularity lately so if you do leave comments or have questions it's much easier to remind me on FB that you've left something. I just noticed today that Lisa had left some comments. Sorry about that cuz.
I also noticed that some of you newcomers are actually in or from KG and this is really exciting to me. I hope you have some more info about some of the things that happened done there or photos or stories or maybe even some time to check out some of the records that are in the courthouse or local historical societies. Does anyone have any family photos or know someone who might still have some old photos floating around? If you're interested in being an author on the blog please don't be shy, I welcome all the participation you want to offer.

  1. My dear I think you are FAR more than "coming along"! Any time you begin the effort of documenting & preserving your Ancestry online -- you have arrived! Definitely keep with the details -- search engines are fueled by KEYWORDS & keep feeding that engine. Stay encouraged!:)

  2. Thanks for the vote of confidence Luckie. I intend to keep plugging away, albeit very slowly. Social media contacts do make things look a little more promising though. It gets better every day.

  3. I descend from William Grimes, a mulatto slave, born circa 1784, in King George, VA. His father, Benjamin Grymes, was a wealthy white planter on the Eagle's Nest plantation and his mother remains an anonymous enslaved woman. William Grimes made a bit of history by penning the first fugitive slave narrative in America. Entitled Life of William Grimes, the Runaway Slave, it was published in New York City in 1825 at a time when Black autobiography was quite sparse.

I’d like to know if any of the contributors on this blog are familiar with William Grimes, his narrative, and if any of you have traced your Grimes/Grymes back to the era of William Grimes’ birth.

    Please contact me at lifeofwilliamgrimes@hotmail.com.

    Thank you.
